I Moved!

My office has relocated to the second floor of 50 SW 2 Ave.
I'm now in downtown Boca Raton, where I can walk to the local coffee shop or the Ramen place. The playroom is nestled in the tree canopy (with a woodpecker, blue jay and cardinal!), so it feels like a grown-up treehouse. My new landlord is a great guy who runs his surveying business on the first floor of the building and my next door neighbor is building a digital platform that will help more people get therapy. The folks in this building have welcomed me, warmly.
I never expected to move from my old office; I was planning to retire there. When the moment of realization- that I needed to move- came to me, I cried. I still am a bit sad.
I searched for so many months to find a new office home and, in the process, was forced into a new decision, I did not expect:
I could either move into a much smaller office that would only have enough room for me and the families I serve
OR
I could move into a much larger office that would have enough room for me and a bunch of other therapists and all the families we could serve, together
I chose the bigger office.
This means that, right now, I have many empty rooms. The siblings of the kids I serve like to run through them, somersaulting in the open space, while I work with their brother or sister. Several of the kids I serve have suggested I get a bed and make one space a bedroom, for naps. I tell them that the rooms are waiting patiently for new therapists that are coming.
I have long-since said that we need more child therapists to intervene sooner, to disrupt intergenerational trauma. I have long-since said that if we have more child therapists, we can eliminate the need for grown-up therapists. I have long-since said that I take my responsibility to the next generation of child therapists seriously.
So, I am putting my money where my mouth is. I'll be expanding. I'll do my best to be a source of ethical, empirically-based, and consistently effective mental health care for the kids and families of Boca Raton. I'll do my best to support the growth of the highest quality child therapists I can find.
And, I won't be moving again.
